What are the Health Benefits of Dark Chocolates for Kids With Asthma?

Through this, asthmatic kids are offset from the possibilities of getting asthma attacks.

A Closer Look at Theobromine

As a matter of fact, chocolate rarely precipitate the signs and symptoms of bronchial asthma. Clinical experts and nutritionists believe that eating chocolate delights, especially the dark ones can provide beneficial effects to asthmatic child.

But parents should caution their kids from eating too much of sweet treats such as milk chocolates. Though it may not trigger the asthma attack but this can place their kids at risk of developing endocrine problems such as diabetes mellitus.

Despite from common toothaches that most children can get from eating chocolates, these food items can generate healthful benefits for the asthmatic child’s wellbeing. Among these are:

Theobromine is an alkaloid element found is cacao. This is a unique feature of cacao plants that are extracted to produce dark chocolates. A research investigation made by the Children’s Hospital in Canada, theobromine can cause bronchodilation.

Bronchodilation is a physiologic manifestation, wherein the bronchioles (stems of lungs) are expanding to accommodate sufficient amount of oxygen. It has similar effects to codeine.

Additionally, theobromine works effectively for reducing the cholesterol level in the blood. This makes it more beneficial to people with high blood pressure and bronchial asthma. Based on the reports made by the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in Australia, they found out that the blood pressure of asthmatic kids is significantly higher than healthy children.

This simply shows that eating dark chocolates can provide double effects for children living with asthma. However, dark chocolates are not considered as replacement for medications.
